Burying Mills at Jubilee House will amount to disrespect-Sammy Awuku

A Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Awuku, has described the reported suggestion by some members of the Mills' Funeral Planning Committee to bury the mortal remains of the late president John Evans Atta Mills at the Flagstaff House, as a sign of disrespect to his personality.

Sammy Awuku based his argument on the fact that the late president was reported to have refused to temporally live in the Flagstaff House when he was alive. He maintained that it will be totally disrespectful to bury him at a place he refused to live.

Speaking on Peace FM's Kokrokoo show, Tuesday, Mr. Awuku expressed his condolence to family of the late president describing his death as a great loss.

He observed that managers of the late president and some leading members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would have to answer to Ghanaians after the burial rites, as to circumstances that led to his death.

The place of burial of the late President was first announced on Joy FM, Saturday, by the Minister of Communications, Haruna Iddrisu.

The Minister however retracted the statement as other venues such as the forecourt of the State House, a reserved site at the Osu Cemetery as well as a section of the Osu Castle are all being considered as possible burial place for presidents. President Mills will thus become the first to be buried at such a place when the decision is reached.

Touching on the health status of the late Evans Atta Mills which many believed was the cause of his death, Mr. Sammy Awuku said he never liked the way some party members defended his health status till he died.

He said although he (Sammy Awuku) and his part (NPP) despise the president's policy, 'you should be concerned about the person's health more than any other thing'.

He called on Ghanaians irrespective of their party differences, to unite in this period of grief.
