
Tarkwa, July 30, GNA - A Tarkwa circuit court has sentenced James Okra, a 29 year-old carpenter, who resides at Tarkwa Akyempim in the Western region to 12 months imprisonment for stealing three pieces of felt belonging to Goldfields Ghana Limited (GGL)at the Tarkwa mine valued at GH¢ 216.96.
He pleaded guilty.
Prosecuting Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo that on July 27th this year, around 1350 hours the security officers of GGL on their usual patrol duty saw the convict and two others, now at large, carrying three pieces of felt, which had been laid in the ground by GGL, Tarkwa mine to prevent spillage of cyanide in to the soil.
Detective Amponsah said the three were given a hot chase by the security officers and James Okra was arrested but his accomplices managed to escape.
According to the Prosecutor, the offender was later handed over to the police and after investigation he was charged with the offense.
