Sekondi, July 30, GNA – A section of people from the Western Region on Monday trooped to the Western Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) in Sekondi to sign a book of condolence in memory of Ghana's late President, Professor John Evans Atta Mills.
President Mills passed away last Tuesday July 24 at the 37 Military Hospital at age 68.
Almost all the tributes paid described the late president as a man of peace, unifying, tolerant, humble, and dedicated to his duty.
According to them, his selflessness contributed to the peaceful environment currently prevailing in the country.
At about 1300 hours, 91 people had signed the book with Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Mr. Ransford Moses Ninson, Western Regional Police Commander and his deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mr. Fred Asare being the first to append their signature.
Others included the Regional Minister, Mr. Paul Evans Aidoo, his deputy, Madam Emelia Arthur, Captain Anthony Cudjoe (retired), Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Service Commanders, traditional rulers, journalists, the Muslim community, District Chief Executives and Heads of Department.
The traditional rulers included Nana Kobena Nketsiah V, Omanhene of Essikado Traditional Area; Nana Kwesi Agyemang IX, Omanhene of Lower Dixcove; Osagyefo Kwamina Enimil VI, Omanhene of Wassa Fiase; Awulae Amihere Kpanyinlie of Eastern Nzema Traditional Area; Nana Kofi Abuna, Chief of Essipon and some members of the judiciary.
In an interview, the Regional Minister, Mr. Aidoo called on the electorates to unite and rally behind the administration of President John Dramani Mahama to execute the unfinished work of the late President.
Mr Aidoo expressed optimism that ongoing projects in the region initiated by the late President Mills would continue accodring to what was in the Western Regional Spatial Development Project document.
He mentioned some of the projects as road reconstruction, Takoradi port expansion, and the railway lines among others.
The book of condolence is opened up to Friday August 3rd.
