E.T. Mensah and 20 lay evangelists inducted

Kumasi, July 30, GNA - The Most Reverend Professor Emmanuel Kwaku Asante, Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, has underlined the need for the Church to intensify its evangelism to bring hope and confidence to the people.

He said the Church has to do more to help the people to have trust in God and to lead honest and pious lives.

He was speaking at an induction service held for 21 lay evangelists of the Church at the Bethel Methodist Chapel at Ayigya in Kumasi.

Among them was Mr Enoch Teye Mensah, Minister for Water Resources, Works and Housing.

The Most Rev Prof Asante, who is also the National Chairman of the Peace Council, admonished them to preach peace and to also let their teachings influence positive changes in the society.

He said since majority of Ghanaians are Christians, the church must accept to play a unique role to discourage indiscipline and social injustices.

Additionally, he said, the Church should work together with the State to promote the socio-economic, political and spiritual development of the people.

The Most Rev expressed optimism that the nation would go through the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections peacefully.

He invited the congregation to pray for the evangelists to be blessed and guided by God.

Mr Mensah, speaking to journalists on the sidelines, appealed to all to work together to make the December polls peaceful, transparent, and credible.

He said, though a politician, he was strong in his faith, adding that politics and religion could not be separated.
