Court remands businessman for swindling a bank manager

Bibiani (W/R), July 27, GNA - The Bibiani Circuit Court presided over by Justice Emmanuel Ankamah has ordered a businessman to be held in prison custody for swindling a bank manager of his GH¢ 30,000.00.

Yussif Haroun had baited the victim with a promise of supplying him with 1,000 bags of fertilizer.

He is charged with fraud and pleaded not guilty. The accused would be brought back to answer for his crime on Monday, August 6.

Police Detective Chief Inspector Alex Asamoah told the court that the complainant, Eric Offei, is a bank manager at Sefwi-Bonsu-Nkwanta.

Haroun, a businessman and customer of the bank, also lives at Sefwi-Juaboso.

The prosecution said on April 13, this year, the accused convinced Offei that he could supply him with 1,000 bags of fertilizers and succeeded in collecting GH¢ 30,000.00 from him.

The complainant gave him a cheque for the amount and after cashing it Haroun went into hiding.

Police Detective Chief Inspector Asamoah said Offei managed to get through to him on his cellular phone on June 5, and tricked him to come over to his office for additional money and when he showed up, he was arrested.
