Foremost environmental sanitation management company, Zoomlion Ghana Limited, is optimistic the establishment of the Institute of Waste Management will drive professionalism and add value and to the budding sanitation industry.
Ghana's environmental sanitation industry holds potentials for job and wealth creation, especially for the youth.
There currently exist small business ventures in waste management, mostly in value addition through recycling of waste products.
The country however lacks avenues to train quality personnel for effective output and service delivery in the sanitation industry.
Zoomlion's Institute of Waste Management is expected to address the challenge by feeding the sanitation sector with highly-skilled and well-trained personnel.
Ashanti Regional Manager of the company, Stephen Gyekye-Darko says the Institute will run capacity-building and standard training services courses in collaboration with local and international academic institutions to standardize training.
“Zoomlion wants to initiate a scheme such that before someone will say that I'm a waste management officer or professional, then he has gone to a professional institution, accredited and licensed to operate or establish a company to render quality services to people”, he told Luv Fm.
Mr. Gyekye-Darko acknowledged waste management is capital intensive, but said could be a profitable venture because “there is wealth is waste”.
