Accra, July 09, GNA - Tigo Ghana has provided cash and items worth over GH¢7,000 to the chiefs and people of Akyim Abuakwa Traditional Council to celebrate this year's Ohumkan festival.
This festival is celebrated by the chief and people of New and Old Tafo in the Eastern Region. It was instituted 350 years ago when a hunter of Osiem, near Akyim Tafo, discovered the mystery behind the celebration during a hunting expedition.
It is characterized by a two-week ban on noise making and funeral rites and the eating of "fufu", a staple meal.
Activities sponsored were town procession, Fontomfrom competitions, Gospel rock show, Tigo Cash health walk and a donation to bring more excitement to the festival whilst educating them at the same time.
Presenting the items, Tenu Awonoor, Head of Marketing at Tigo said, “Tigo is humbled to be associated with the rich Ghanaian culture. Even though, this is our first time sponsoring the Ohumkan festival, it will definitely not be our last.
"We also encourage you to remain peaceful and focused on the development of this traditional area and also please remember to make Tigo, 'the credit that lasts longer,' your number one choice”.
Osabarima Edusei Peasah IV, Chief of the Traditional Area, received the items and applauded Tigo for supporting them in their celebration.
He also expressed gratitude to the telecom company for their kind gesture and pleaded with them to make this a starting point in building a stronger relationship between Tigo and the Traditional Area.
