Retired educationist organises party for teacher trainees

By GNA

Beposo (Ash), July 4, GNA – Nana Boaten, a retired deputy director of education, has advised students of college of education in the country to use their professional teaching skills and knowledge acquired to render good services to the nation.

He said as professional teachers they should learn to be compassionate to pupils and communities they might be posted to teach.

The retired educationist said this when he organised a party for seven students of St. Monica's College of Education, who completed a nine-month teaching practice at the Presbyterian Basic Schools at Beposo in the Sekyere Central District in the Ashanti Region at the weekend.

He reminded the students that humility, lesson-notes preparation, punctuality and regularity at school and giving pupils adequate exercises are the hallmark of every good teacher.

“Laziness, absenteeism, arrogance and immorality should have no place in a properly trained teacher.”

Nana Boaten appealed to the government to provide the needed logistics and support to regional and district directorates of education to undertake routine inspection of schools to ensure maintenance of standard of performance of teaching and learning.

He mentioned teacher's accommodation as one of the major challenges facing teachers who are posted to rural communities and appealed to district and municipal assemblies to make provision of teachers' quarters as a priority.

Miss Josephine Boakye, a spokesperson for the students, thanked Nana Boaten and his wife Mrs Dora Dankwa Boaten, for their kind gesture and prayed for God's blessing for the family.

The seven students were among twenty-eight others from the College, who were sent to do their teaching practice in eight basic schools at Beposo.
