Driver fined GH360.00 for traffic offence

Nkawie (Ash), July 4, GNA – A driver, who parked the Nissan Urvan “trotro” bus he was driving at an authourised place to pick passengers, has been fined GH¢360.00 by the Nkawie Circuit Court in the Atwima Nwabiagya District.

The driver Richard Opoku, who is 29 years, was said to have parked at Apatrapa Junction near Tanoso on the Kumasi-Sunyani highway.

He is also accused of failing to produce his driving license and driving with expired road worthy certificate.

Opoku pleaded not guilty to the offence and would serve a 12-month jail term if he fails to pay the fine.

Prosecuting, Detective Sergeant Jonas Adjei told the court presided over by Mr Frank Owusu-Afriyie that on June 26, 2012 at about 0800, the accused, who was driving his vehicle with registration number GW 6507-W, parked at that spot which was unauthorised and started picking passengers.

The accused was then arrested and was later arraigned.

The presiding judge, however, ordered that the road worthy certificate be renewed before the vehicle is renewed to its owner.

The presiding judge Mr. Owusu Afriyie, who presided over by the court, ordered that the road worthy certificate must be renewed before the Police released the said vehicle to the owner of vehicle.
