Wa Municipal Assembly supports the provision of electricity to three communities

Boli (U/W), June 30, GNA – The Wa Municipal Assembly is spending 54,000 Ghana Cedis to provide high tension electricity poles and its accessories to connect electricity to three communities in the Municipality.

The provision of electricity would not only help to improve social activities in those communities but would also promote cottage industries among the people, Alhaji Duogo Yakubu, Wa Municipal Chief Executive, said.

He said the assembly had provided 50 high tension poles to Wala-Sombo, 40 poles to Boli and 40 poles to Charia-Pogayiri communities for the implementation of the projects.

Alhaji Yakubu made this known during a visit to the communities to interact with community members and also inspect work on the projects which was being undertaken by Buk Electrical Construction Firm.

He said the assembly had provided a school block and a borehole to the Wala-Sombo communities and was in the process of providing them with toilet facility to help improve sanitary condition there.

The Municipal Chief Executive appealed to members of the beneficiary communities to cooperate with the contractor for the smooth implementation of the project.

Mr Nyeyela Aziz, Assembly Member of Wala-Sombo announced that 9,300 Ghana Cedis had been loaned out to 25 women in the community to undertake small scale business activities to improve their livelihoods under Micro Finance and Small Loans Centre.

He said the provision of projects in the community was in fulfilment of the assembly's social commitment and responsibility to the people and urged them to rekindle the self-help spirit to complement government's development efforts.

Alhaji Yakubu advised supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) not to discriminate on party lines when connecting electricity to homes.

He said every Ghanaian has the right to basic social needs that the government was providing to the communities and that discrimination of on party lines would defeat the good intentions of the government.

Alhaji Yakubu announced that 10 Community Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds would be built in the Municipality with financial assistance from Japan International Community Agency (JICA) of which some communities in the Boli area would be beneficiaries.

He appealed to the people to keep faith with the government to provide them with more development projects to improve their lives.
