Kofi Amoabeng donate 'Jonnie Walker' reward to Young Entrepreneurs

Ghana's Jonnie Walker and CEO of UT Bank, Prince Kofi Amoabeng has donated his GHC50,000 prize money from the Jonnie Walker “Walk with the Giants” ambassadorial role to Enablis Ghana to support young entrepreneurs in Ghana.

Prince Kofi Amoabeng was chosen by Diageo, makers of Jonnie Walker Whisky, Guinness Stout and other superior beverages, as Ghana's Giant in the Jonnie Walker “Walk with the Giants” Global Campaign, to use his story as a successful entrepreneur in Ghana to inspire the younger generation.

The campaign was intended to offer the opportunity to younger people to take a walk with inspirational men like Prince Kofi Amoabeng, who also get the opportunity to share stories of how they fell on their journey to the top, and how the woke up and walked on in spite of the failures.

As part of the ambassadorial role, Prince Kofi Amoabeng had to choose projects on his heart to support with his prize money, and he chose Enablis Ghana, an organization that works with and trains young entrepreneurs to grow.

He told Adom News the choice was easy for him because he was a board member of Enablis and UT Bank had already been supporting Enablis with GHC100,000 every year and UT staff had been offering human development skills to the over 140 young entrepreneurs at Enablis.

Prince Kofi Amoabeng said he was excited about the Jonnie Walker role because it was about inspiring young entrepreneurs, which was something he was already passionately involved with.

“This whole project is about encourage young people to rise up and keep walking no matter the number of failures on the journey to success and I have many examples of failures and how I overcame them to share with the youth,” he said.

Marketing Manager for Jonnie Spirits at Guinness Ghana Limited, Alan McLeneen told Adom News Prince Kofi Amoabeng was a perfect fit for the job because of his history of having surmounted challenges to become successful.

He said Ghana's Jonnie Walker, like many others around the world would get to share their story and inspire people around the world through the massive media campaign in Ghana and elsewhere, in which Mr. Amoabeng would feature prominently.

Mr. McLeneen said there was no time limit to the role of Mr. Amoabeng as a Jonnie Walker ambassador, adding that so long as he remained an ambassador, whatever projects he came up with, Diageo would support it provided it was in line with the objectives of the campaign.

Country Manager of Enablis Ghana, Sika Acolatse expressed gratitude to Mr. Amoabeng and UT for the continuous support for young entrepreneurs, saying that the support is really paying off.

She said the over 140 young entrepreneurs at Enablis receive training for free and most of them had since reported of huge successes in their business since they joined Enablis.

Kofi Amoabeng is the second Ghanaian to have been chosen for this role, after world acclaimed Ghanaian fashion designer Ozwald Boateng. Other Jonnie Walker Giants are British Millionaire Richard Branson, Ethiopian Athlete Haile Gebrselassie, Manu Dibango and Lewis Hamilton.
