Bosome students hit the streets, teachers sent threatening messages

Asiwa (Ash), June 12, GNA – Students of Bosome Senior High Technical School have staged a peaceful demonstration to protest the arrest of four of their teachers by the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI).

The teachers were arrested for allegedly threatening the life of the Bosome-Freho District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Kwame Adarkwah.

The students demanded immediate release of the suspects, Messrs Anthony Nyame, Kwabena Eghan, Madjid Abdul Adam and Oppong Sarpong, vowing to remain on the streets until they were freed.

The angry students accused the DCE of dragging the name of school into disrepute through spurious and wild claims saying Mr Adarkwah has been orchestrating damaging publications in sections of the media and on the internet that some teachers in the school were involved in amorous relationships with some of the female students, something, they described as a lie.

They said they found it difficult to rationalize why the DCE could peddle such an untrue story about the school and called for a thorough investigation into the matter.

They warned that the conduct of the DCE could scare away many teachers from accepting posting to the school, which is already disadvantaged by its distant location.

Mr Adarkwah, however, denies any wrong-doing saying he had been receiving reports about inappropriate sexual relations between some teachers and girls of the school and set up a committee after consultations with the District Education Director and the Headmaster, to establish the veracity or otherwise of these reports.

Then, his troubles began, as he kept receiving threatening text messages on his cellular phone from anonymous persons, he said.

He said he reported the matter to the appropriate authorities who traced those messages to the four suspects and invited them to assist their investigations.

Mr Adarkwah said his actions were entirely in the best interest of the students and insisted that the demonstrating students were being manipulated by the teachers.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Daniel Amoako, the Asante-Bekwai Municipal Commander, called for calm to allow the appropriate authorities to handle the situation.
