Horror! 2 Kids Drown; Suicide At Legon, Murder At Teshie

Two school children who reported missing on Thursday at Nyanyano Point 4, close to Kasoa in the Central Region, were found dead yesterday.
The kids, whose names were given as Godfred Asiedu, 5, and his playmate, Naa Dede Tetteh, 4, a KG pupil of Opportunity Schools, were found dead in a salt lake in the community around 5:30am yesterday after a fruitless search the previous day.
Regina Yeboah, mother of Godfred Asiedu, and Judith Lumo, mother of Naa Dede, gave similar accounts about what could have led to the demise of their children.
They told DAILY GUIDE that as at 1:00pm on Thursday afternoon, the children were at home playing outside after they had finished eating, but about 10 minutes later, they were nowhere to be found. A search for the duo was to no avail.
A resident later told them to check around a pit dug by salt miners which was just a few meters away from where they lived, saying she saw them heading towards that area. And to the parents' surprise, they saw slippers belonging to the two children at the bank of the pit, which was said to be about 20 feet deep.
Though the parents saw the slippers of Godfred and Naa Dede around the pit, they did not notice any sign of the children there and therefore left and later went to report the matter to the chief of the community.
Regina Yeboah told DAILY GUIDE at the scene that early yesterday, her brother again went to the pit and saw their bodies floating on the water.
He raised alarm which drew nearby residents to the scene.
The bodies were later removed after the incident was reported to the Nyanyano Police Station.
Their remains have been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue in Accra while investigations are ongoing.
Meanwhile, some residents of the community who spoke to DAILY GUIDE have appealed to the chief do something about the pits dug by some residents for salt crystallization which have been left uncovered or unfenced, to prevent such disaster from occurring.
They said the chief should compel the salt miners to protect or fence the pits so that children or even animals might not be tempted to go near them to swim or drink water.
Some of the pits were said to be very deep.
Suicide At Legon
An unidentified man has allegedly committed suicide at the campus of the University of Ghana, Legon.
The body of the young man was found dangling on a tree with a rope tied to his neck.
The man, believed to be in his twenties, was hanging on one of the trees close to the Ecobank at the campus of the university, with his tongue stuck out.
The man was yet to be identified but the people around the area said they had seen him on a number of occasions, weeding in the area.
Police later came for the body for autopsy.
Recently, the nearby Achimota Golf Course also recorded a similar case of suicide, when a certain Tosh Mensah was found hanging on one of the trees there.
