SOGASCO land committee inaugurated

Ho, May 30, GNA-Mr Henry Ford Kamel, Volta Regional Minister on Wednesday inaugurated an 11-member committee to help resolve issues related to the encroachment on Sogakope Senior High School (SOGASCO) lands.

The committee, under the chairmanship of Mr Henry Ametepe, Deputy Volta Regional Minister would among other things determine the boundaries of SOGASCO lands, ascertain whether government paid compensation in respect of the land and find out persons, groups and agencies encroaching on the land.

It is also to find out who destroyed structures, such as the fence wall being put up by the School and investigate allegations of arson and sexual harassment in the School.

The Committee was not given any timeframe but expected to present its findings as early as possible, for normalcy to return to enhance quality teaching and learning in the School.

Mr Kamel urged members of the Committee to put all other interests aside and allow their expertise and exposure to be brought on the Committee's work for the good of the community.

He appealed to traditional authorities and Assembly members to support the work of the Committee.

Justice Patrick Baye, a Ho High Court Judge, swore in the Committee members and urged them to be “candid with the truth and not shield anyone”.

Mr Bernard Glover, a Member of Council of State, commended Mr Kamel for tackling the SOGASCO land issue head-on and hoped the Committee's report and recommendations would help resolve the issue.

Mr Ametepe, on behalf of the Committee, assured that all issues would be looked at dispassionately and appealed to other stakeholders such as community members and traditional authorities to help the Committee in its work.
