NPP GOV'TS ACHIEVEMENTS IN THE URBAN SECTOR,UNPRECEDENTED ACHIEVEMENT- MR.KPODO
22 MAY 2012 LISTEN

There has been a major transformation in the water sector in 2006 with the advent of PSP (Private Sector Participation). Whilst GWCL (Ghana Water Company Limited) handles the Investment and Asset Management, a Dutch and South African joint venture has been contracted to manage the operations. The decision to invite the private sector in operations of GWCL is to improve the efficiency of the management as well as ensure the financial sustainability of the company.

The NPP Government has set a national target of 85% coverage by 2015 and as such has prioritized and sourced funding from a number of countries such as Netherlands, Belgium, China, United States, Nordic countries, Spain, and of course our Development Partners. The NPP Governments determination and commitment to achieving the MDG (Millennium Development Goal) cannot be understated. The Government understands the impact of providing adequate potable water to the citizenry to stem the incidence of water borne diseases such as Guinea Worm, Bilharzia, and Onchocerciasis.
