Man Severs Penis

A 20-year-old man, Kwadwo Obeng, has, in a bizarre act, cut off his penis, throwing the predominantly farming community of Kobeng in the Atwima Nwabiagya District in the Ashanti Region into a state of shock.

Residents could not conjecture what might have compelled Obeng to commit the act, especially as he had been living in the community as a normal person.

Obeng, who was first rushed to the Nkawie Hospital, was later transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) where he is currently receiving treatment.

A resident of Kobeng, who briefed graphic.com.gh on telephone, said the incident happened about 6 a.m. Sunday.

According to him, Obeng, a bachelor, travelled outside Kobeng and returned to the town Saturday.

On Sunday morning, while Obeng was sleeping in his room with a friend, he started behaving in an unusual manner.

Suddenly, the witness said, Obeng took a knife and opened a small cut on his neck. A little while later, and in a rather serious act, he used the knife to open another cut on the penis, severing it off in the process.

The friend raised an alarm and Obeng, who was then bleeding profusely, was first rushed to the Nkawie Hospital, from where he was transferred to KATH.
