Sunyani, May 05, GNA – Professor Esi Awuah, Vice Chancellor of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) in Brong-Ahafo, has urged Mathematics teachers and tutors to make the teaching of the subject interesting to pupils and students.

She said make the teaching “lovely, simple and understanding to demystify the fear amongst students that studying the subject was difficult”.

Prof Awuah made the call in Sunyani on Thursday when she presented a paper on the theme “Establishment of a Public University in Brong-Ahafo Region: How far have we gone,” at a dialogue session as part of the four-day regional Policy Fair that commenced on Wednesday.

The programme, under the theme “Building Together in a Better Ghana”, is aimed among others at creating the opportunity for the people to seek the right information and to interact with policy makers and implementers with the view of enhancing policy formulation and policy review.

It is also to offer Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), as well as Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), the chance to exhibit government programmes, projects and achievements within the 40 months rule of the government.

Prof Awuah said mathematics underpinned the study of science and technology, engineering and all related academic and professional disciplines, hence the need for teachers and all stakeholders to promote its study for pupils.

She said mathematics as subject was not the preserve of males or particular set of people but that everyone was capable of studying it provided it was seasoned with the right language.

The Vice Chancellor gave assurance the University would encourage the study of science and mathematics by using herself as a model in collaboration with the students' women's commissioner through outreach programmes in communities in the region.

The fair ended on Saturday with cultural and tourism display and a food bazaar.
