Aiyinasi (W/R), May 03, GNA - Registration of 157 remedial students of the Ellembelle District for this year's November/December West African Senior Certificate Examination (WASSCE) has been launched at Aiyinasi.

The initiative, estimated to cost GHȼ50,000, is under the auspices of Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area.

Launching the programme, Mr Buah said the remedial students have been registered to enjoy free tuition and prepare adequately to write this year's November/December examinations.

He said 139 remedial students were registered at a cost of GHȼ20,000 last year but was sad that most of the candidates did not turn up for the classes let alone partake the examinations.

Mr Buah said the initiative formed part of his ambition to educate people to change the fortunes of the youth in the area.

He appealed to parents in the area to allow their wards to take advantage of the classes in order to better their grades.

Mr Gabriel Amoh, the Project Consultant of the MP Remedial Project, said only 1% out of the 139 candidates who sat for the examinations last year passed.

He said candidates were taken through intensive classes last year but was surprised that they did not take the classes seriously and urged them to put in more effort for the program this year
