“Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success” - Henry Ford
Kudos! to all workers worldwide. Blessings to all who strive to make ends meet for the family and for the improvement of socio- politico-economic development of their motherland.
Commencing, it was a step in the right direction that internationally a day is put aside for workers: For our appreciation to workers and for them to also seek better working conditions. It is laudable when the Federation of Organized Labour Unions in America in 1884 agitated against poor working conditions leading to May 1st being set aside for our respectable workers.
I find it very thoughtful on the part of Ghana TUC to have chosen the theme, “Election 2012: The role of workers in ensuring peaceful and fair elections “ Despite the tough times they have been through, their theme today tells how much the betterment of Ghana concerns them.
The government of Ghana should therefore continue to up rate workers very high as well as considering to some extent; their grievances in their quest to seek for good working conditions. Government should also note that strikes by workers which is the order of the day, is not healthy for a democratic nation like ours. It is an indication of instability in our motherland.
Improvement of the socio-politico-economic development of the nation depends largely on workers. It is therefore very important that the relationship between the Ghana Trade Union Congress and the government is strengthen day in and day out. Also, employers should give what is due workers for their labour. Workers rights must be respected in all spheres as well.
For a peaceful nation and for the betterment of mother Ghana, employers and employees must work hand in hand.
Workers, you have worked tirelessly and most employers have also kept the faith. Today May 1, 2012, you are being appreciated by all and sundry.
“You shall eat the fruit the labour of your hands; you shall be happy, and shall be well with you” Ps 128:2
