Nsawam, July 31, GNA - Mr Kwadwo Adjei-Darko, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, on Wednesday urged the Akuapem South District Assembly to assist landlords to provide toilets in homes. He was speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) during an exercise by the District Assembly to clear heaps of refuse at Nsawam main lorry station.
The refuse dump flows into the Densu River whenever it rained. The Minister was not happy about the pollution of the river, which is the source of water for many communities including Nsawam, Adoagyiri and parts of Accra.
He asked the Assembly to prosecute people who use the area as dumping place for rubbish and advised that trees must be planted to protect the river and beautify the area.
Mr Yaw Nyarko Adu the District Chief Executive said the Assembly would ensure that refuse dumps, which created nuisance in the area would be removed.
