A former General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress is questioning government's decision not to allow the pouring of libation at the country's Independence Day parade.

Josiah Ayerh maintains the seeming ban is unacceptable.

Government has come under heavy criticism for excluding the pouring libation during the 55th Independence Anniversary parade.

A deputy Information Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa attributed the exclusion to the rumpus in the Ga state.

Allotey Jacobs, a leading member of the party in the Central Region insists president Mills has vowed to serve the Lord and will not bee seen to be meddling in idol worship.

But speaking on Joy FM's news analysis program Newsfile Dr. Ayerh said both explanations are untenable.

Citing a news paper report, Ayerh quoted Archbishop Akwasi Sarpong who minced no words in condemning the decision to exclude the libation from the parade.

He said the question of who to do it does not arise at all. “It has never been an issue. It has never been an issue among gas. The question is whether or not the opportunity is given for libation to be poured,” he stated.

The Managing Editor of the New Crusading Guide newspaper who was also on the show Kweku Baako Jnr admonished government to do a little research before coming out with its information on sensitive issues.

He said if the deputy Information Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa had done a little research he would have known that the argument as to who has the powers to pour libation during state function does not arise at all.

He was critical of the government over what he said was contradictory explanation being proffered by government sources on the issues.
