Accra, Feb. 7, GNA – The Teachers and Educational Workers' Union (TEWU) in public universities, have expressed concern over the non-payment of salary arrears for 2010 and 2011 under the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS), blaming it on their management.
A resolution signed by Mr Peter K. Lumor and Mr Mohammed Siedu Bogobiri, National Chairman and General Secretary of TEWU respectively, said management of the public universities had not treated as urgent the Minister of Finance's guidelines for the payment.
The resolution, also signed by Charles Arthur, Chairman of the Committee of Universities Local Union Executives (CULUE), said “if by the close of work on Monday, February 13, 2012, workers of the universities do not receive their arrears, we deem it necessary to advise ourselves”.
The arrears to be paid as agreed with the Public Services Joint Negotiating Committee are as follows: October 2011, two months; December 2011, three months; February 2012, three months; March 2012, two months; April 2012, three months; May 2012, three months; June 2012, two months; July 2012, two months.
The resolution urged management of the universities to effect payment without delay.
