The National Media Commission (NMC) Thursday swore in Mr Kwasi Gyan Appenteng, a veteran journalist, as a member of the commission.
He replaces Mr Berifi Appenteng as one of the two representatives of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) on the NMC.
A Supreme Court judge, Lady Justice Rose Owusu, who swore in the new member, said the NMC had the responsibility to take appropriate measures to ensure the establishment and maintenance of the highest journalistic standards in the mass media.
She, however, raised issues with the quality of work of the mass media, especially the print, and called for urgent attention to address the concerns of the public.
“You should be more proactive in resolving complaints you receive about ethical breaches and professional misconduct by the media, while giving important regard to the continuous training of media personnel to improve their skills and enhance their competencies,” she said.
Lady Justice Owusu was also optimistic that Mr Appenteng would serve his best as a member of the NMC.
For his part, Mr Appenteng pledged to contribute his best in upholding journalistic standards in the country.
