A-G exposes cover up - Is it Betty or Duffour?

The Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Martin Amidu, has given the strongest hint of attempts by some functionaries of the Mills-Mahama led National Democratic Congress government and their “rented” and “criminal” media collaborators to cover up some “gargantuan crimes” they have committed against the good people of Ghana.

 
Ghanaians have been scandalized by what has become known as the Woyomegate in which a whooping sum of over GHC92m has been doled out to NDC bankroller, Alfred Agbesi Woyome, for virtually no work done for the state. They consider the scandal to be the most infamous gargantuan crime ever perpetrated against the nation.

 
 Mr Amidu has accused one of his colleague ministers of sponsoring agitations by “the partisan and rented” NDC media for his removal from office because of fears that his continued stay in office will expose the crimes “they have committed” against the state.

 
Even though Mr Amidu would not name the minister in question,    fingers    are being pointed at his predecessor, Betty Mould Iddrisu, who has been accused of facilitating the over GHC92m Woyomegate through professional negligence. Others also suspect that the minister could be the Finance and Economic Planning Miniser, Kwabena Duffour.

 
In apparent allusion to Mrs Mould Iddrisu whose professional competence was called to question on several occasions, as Attorney-General, Mr Amidu noted: “Cool heads are what are needed in the office of the Attorney General and not emotions, inexperience and crass incompetence in the practice of law…Ghana as a nation can never and should never be allowed to be intimated by charlatans in political disguise.”

 
 In a release to the media, the Attorney-General indicated that the attacks against him, “which started in the Daily Post Publication of 3rd January 2012 were planned by a colleague Minister of State, who perceived that my integrity and professionalism as a lawyer was a threat to the concealment of gargantuan crimes against the people of Ghana in which they might be implicated.”

 
He described the section of the ruling party's media agitating for his removal from office as “criminal media” engaged in the ignoble duty of tarnishing the image of people to promote the agenda of their pay masters.

 
“As   for the section of the rented NDC press calling for my removal or dismissal from office, I wish to assure them that I never begged to be appointed Attorney-General: I opposed it on four separate occasions. That criminal section of the NDC press should be assured that I am ready, able and willing for that eventuality. The inescapable fact is that at the end of the day truth will prevail over falsehood in the Republic of Ghana,” he charged.

 
Mr Amidu   also labeled members of the NDC communication team as inexperienced people, who are absolutely ignorant of the functions of an Attorney-General under the Constitution of Ghana.

“The ethics of a legal profession and the Bar, of which I am a leader, are more sacred to me than that of young and inexperienced members of a communication team of the NDC who are absolutely ignorant of the functions of an Attorney-General under the Constitution of Ghana,” he stressed.  

 
He assured the nation that he would not compromise on his professional integrity “in spite of the fact that hard core criminals in our society today have made it a habit to hold paid membership cards of major political parties in the republic as an unconstitutional insurance against crime and criminal prosecutions.”

 
He added that as an independent and impartial Attorney-General, he would make sure that all the NDC criminals are prosecuted.

 
One of the accusations from the “rented”, “gullible” and “criminal” NDC press is that the Attorney-General is in bed with the opposition NPP, hence his refusal to prosecute past government appointees for some alleged criminal offences against the state.

 
But he insisted in his release that there was no single criminal docket in the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions against any high political operative of the NPP which had been ready for prosecution and had deliberately refused to prosecute.
