Breman Asikuma (C/R) Nov 30, GNA -The Ministry of Energy has signed a 350-million-dollar contract with Weldy Lamant Associates International of the United States of America for a rural electrification project covering sixteen communities in the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District of the Central Region.
Mrs Georgina Nkrumah Aboah, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District, made this known at the Third Ordinary Meeting of the Assembly at Breman Asikuma.
She mentioned Ofbir/Bekuase, Ohiahyeda, Kwaanan Kwa, Ekurakese, Petuker, Wassabiampa, Abekesse, Afofosu, Tabikkwaa, Mpakyem, and Attu-Dauda as some of the beneficiary communities.
The DCE said the contract covered supply and installation of materials and equipment on the project and appealed to Assembly members whose communities were left out to submit the required information to the District Assembly immediately.
Mrs Aboah said 35 communities in the district had already been connected to the national electricity grid within the past three years the National Democratic Congress (NDC) took office.
The DCE said the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) had given accreditation to the Ayipey Community-based Health Planning Services (CHPS) compound, bring the number of health facilities that had been asked by the authorities to provide Health Care Service to insured clients of the NHIS in the District to twelve.
She appealed to Assembly Members to continue to sensitize their people to register with the NHIS to enable them to access free and quality health delivery whenever they attended hospital.
The DCE said a total of 35,367 households had been registered to benefit from the free distribution and hang-up exercise of the Long lasting Insecticides Net.
She therefore urged the assembly member to assist the volunteers who would be engaged in the hang-up exercise to ensure the complete coverage of the programme.
Mrs Aboah informed the house that 36,792 hectares of cocoa farms have been sprayed as at the end of October 2011 under the cocoa mass spraying exercise, which started in August this year.
Mr Anthony Kobina Amoakoh, Presiding member, asked assembly members to be circumspect during phone-in programmes to avoid incurring the displeasure of others.
The house approved the District fee fixing resolution and draft recurrent budget for 2012.
