Ghana Education Service honours Daasebre Oti Boateng

Koforidua, Nov 30, GNA - The Koforidua Senior High School has been renamed Oti Boateng Senior High School, a statement said on Tuesday.

Dasebre Oti Boateng is the Omanhene of New Juabeng Traditional Area and the President of the Eastern Region House of Chiefs.

The statement said Odeefuor Boadi Asiedu, Chief of Ada in Koforidua was addressing a ceremony to mark the 20th anniversary of the school and its fifth speech and price giving day.

The statement said the idea to name the school after the Omanhene was first mooted in 2007 at a time he was serving on the school's board.

It said the Board of Governors studied the memorandum submitted by the staff and sent it to the New Juaben Traditional Council, the Municipal Assembly and the Regional office of the Ghana Education Service for consideration.

“The end result was the receipt of a communication from the Ministry of Education and the GES dated 3rd August 2011, conveying approval by the government of the change of the name of the school to Oti Boateng”, it said.

The statement said Daasebre Oti Boateng in his remarks accepted the honour in all humility and promised to discharge all the responsibilities that go with the honour.

Daasebre Oti Boateng announced that in addition to the GHc5000 he had donated towards the celebrations of the school's anniversary, he would provide 30 sets of computers for a computer laboratory with all accessories with a networking HP printer at a total cost of GHc 20,000 including installation.

He also announced the provision of two scholarships each year at the All Nation University, Koforidua for the best overall male and female from the New Juabeng Traditional Area.
