
Samahu (W/R), Nov 30, GNA - Goldfields Ghana Limited Tarkwa mine has organized a free medical outreach programme for communities in its catchments area.
People in the beneficiary communities, Samahu, Huniso, Pepesa, Abekoase, Tebe and Awudua all in the Prestea Huni/Valley District, were screened for high blood pressure, sugar level, weight, diabetes and HIV.
The exercise attracted over 500 people was aimed at examining the less privilege in the society who cannot afford to visit the hospital for regular check up.
Goldfields Ghana Limited Tarkwa Mine in conjunction with medical personnel from Tarkwa Government Hospital, ABA Hospital and Korle- Bu Teaching Hospital collaborated to host the programme.
Mr. Yaw Poku, Community Affairs Superintendent of Goldfield Ghana Limited Tarkwa Mine, said medications for malaria, antibiotics, basic medication for diarrhoea and other diseases worth 10,000 Ghana cedis was provided for the outreach programme.
Mr. Opoku said the outreach programme is to help improve the health of the people to enable them contribute towards the development of their communities.
Mr. Asafo Agyei, a final year medical student of the University of Ghana Medical School, appealed to Ghanians to take the hand washing with soap seriously by assisting their children to understand the concept and added “though this is a simple concept, it can prevent many diseases."
