Mascot Launches Energy Products

Mascot Ghana on Tuesday launched its range of renewable energy products in Accra.

Prominent among the products were the Mascot Home Solar power system, specifically designed for home power generating purposes, the Mascot Human Power Bike and several energy optimization bulbs, which are all made in China.

I.K. Mintah, the representative of the Energy Commission, who officially launched the products, invited Mascot International to set up a manufacturing plant in Ghana.

He also noted that government, through the Energy Commission, was promoting a Renewable Energy Law to ensure the integration of renewable energy into the country's energy mix.

This is expected to enhance energy security and provide a regulatory framework to enable investors in renewable energy ply their trade devoid of barriers associated with renewable energy.

'Climate change, with high oil prices, rising cost in electricity and increasing government support, are driving increase in renewable energy legislation, incentives and commercialization, all over the world.'

The law also provides for a feed-in-tariff mechanism encourage by legislation and the adoption and use of renewal energy.

In addition, he noted that the law provided for renewable energy purchase obligations for obligated entities (electricity suppliers and bulk customers) to purchase a certain percentage of their energy from renewable energy sources.

The power bike provides sufficient electrical power for domestic lighting, computer systems, mobile phones, electronic blankets, oxygen machines, rice cookers, kettles and other low power devices.

Wisdom Togobo, Director of Renewables at the Ministry of Energy, in an address, commended Mascot Ghana for introducing the renewable energy products and urged government agencies, private sector industries, as well as families to opt for the products for efficient energy use.

Present at the launch was Ou Jubiao, president of Mascot International.
