2 Die In Accident

Unconfirmed reports indicate that two persons have died in an accident at McCarthy Hill Tuesday morning.

The accident, according to  an eyewitness, involved  a Kia Rio truck with registration number GT 7113 U, a Kia Besta passenger vehicle ES 8051 and a Mercedes Benz with registration number 180- GW 9009 Q .

The brakes of the Kia truck was said to have failed upon descending the McCarthy Hill, near Mallam Junction and run into the passenger vehicle heading towards Kasoa from Odorkor.

Narrating the accident to DAILY GUIDE , one Alhaji Abu Daanaa, a victim who sustained some injuries, said the Kia Rio truck was descending the McCarthy Hill towards Mallam Junction.

'It failed its breaks and run into the passenger vehicle which was also coming from Odorkor to Kasoa, together with the Mercedes Benz vehicle.'

The dead, according to the victim, were two passengers who were seated at the front seat of the Kia Besta passenger vehicle.

The Commander in charge of the Odorkor Motor Traffic and Transport Unit of the Ghana Police Service, ASP Abdulai Mumuni, confirmed the accident but said information received so far indicated that no death was recorded.

He said drivers involved in the accident had so far reported to the police but claimed no person died.

Driver of the Kia Rio truck, Kwesi Nyarko, confirmed that his brakes failed as he was descending the McCarthy Hill and ran into the passenger vehicle driven by Paul Odoi.

According to both drivers, one person was rushed to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital while the rest were treated and discharged.

Meanwhile, a police officer has been sent to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital to confirm the dead.
