Leaders told to be good examples in the fight against corruption

Deduako (Ash), Aug 2, GNA – The Revered Father Isaac Agyekum, Parish Priest of the Appiadu Catholic Church, has urged people in leadership positions to put the nation ahead of individual's interest and aspirations.

He said they should stop the unbridled lust for wealth in order to help to rein in corruption.

Father Agyekum said it was disheartening to see people put in positions of trust became completely disconnected from their people – pushing ahead with their own self-serving agenda.

He was saying the mass to climax a three-day conference held to commemorate the “Feast of Saint Maria Goretti”, the founder of Catholic Youth Organization (CYO), by the Amakom Denary of the CYO at Deduako near Kumasi.

The annual Feast is celebrated every July. A huge gathering attended this year's event.

Father Agyekum advised the youth to resist foreign cultural influences that tended to corrupt morals. In addition, he said, they should uphold the values of self-discipline and sincerity and must be God-fearing.

He also underlined the need for them to accept to live in total peace and reconciliation with all people.

Mr Paul Markler Opoku-Agyemang, Chairman of the Amakom Denary of CYO, appealed to the leadership of the church to support the activities of organization since it was the “root and future” of the church.

He urged the youth to get closer to God and refuse the influence of the devil.
