The Campaign Team of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings last Thursday had the shock of their lives, as the Central Regional National Democratic Congress (NDC) delegates and other important personalities in the party refused to meet them, a source has told The Chronicle.
The team, which was led by Mr. Kofi Adams and his colleague campaign team members, according to our report, were scheduled to meet the Central Regional Minister, Ms Ama Benyiwa Doe, Mr. Ebo Barton Odro, Member of Parliament for Cape Coast and Mr. Egyir Aikins, the Mayor of Cape Coast.
However, both regional and constituency executives also refused to meet the team on the grounds that they were not ready to send the NDC party to opposition.
Mrs. Rawlings team later made strenuous calls to get the delegates to hear their message, but their effort proved futile, as none of the members were ready to respond to their call.
The source said they refused to meet Konadu's team because they thought their activities were inimical to the forward march of the party, and also undermining the sitting President.
Looking frustrated, Konadu's campaign team then left a leaflet that indicated they would return to the region on June 30, 2011, to meet the delegates. The source confirmed to the paper that the Regional Minister had then travelled outside the region.
In a telephone interview with the NDC Central Region Deputy Treasurer, Mr. Eric Essuah confirmed the story and explained that the delegates were not prepared to meet Konadu's team, because their activities undermined the sitting President, John Evans Atta Mills, instead of rallying behind him in his quest to improve the lot of Ghanaians.
He revealed that it was the Konadu campaign team that gave money to some three guys to organize a press conference that called on President Mills to step aside for her, adding that it was high time Konadu's team put a stop to the image-denting tactics that could not change the focus of the delegates at Sunyani.
