Wassa Amenfi (W/R), June 1, GNA — Over 400 people have been affected by a heavy rain storm that hit the Wassa Amenfi West District last Saturday.

The storm destroyed over 100 buildings whilst some bridges linking major cocoa growing communities in the district collapsed.

The District Chief Executive for the area, Mr. Samuel Kwasi Meisu, told the Ghana News Agency that due to the devastation that the rain storm had caused, farmers could not cart their cocoa beans and food items to the market centres.

He said if the bridges were not repaired early food items and cash crops would go waste and affect the local economy.

Mr Meisu said the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) had been informed and had promised to provide relief items to the victims.

Some of the affected communities are Kamaboi, Obing, Samaboi-Bekwai and Bantamakrom. The rest are Ohenkrom, Enyenbirim, Kwamensakrom and Ahenbirim.
