Help Improve Living Standards In Zongos - Muslim Chief

The Chairman of the Eastern Regional Council of Muslim Chiefs, Chief Abu Adams, has advised newly elected assembly and unit committee members in the zongo communities to help improve the living standards of people in those areas.

That, he said, could be done if they solicited support from the assemblies, non-governmental organisations and well-to-do individuals to provide social amenities and other poverty-alleviation initiatives in those areas.

Chief Adams, who is also the Dagomba Chief of Koforidua in the New Juaben municipality, gave the advice when the three newly elected assembly members for the three electoral areas in Koforidua Zongo, together with some of the unit committee members, called on him at his Koforidua palace.

The three assembly members are Messrs Selassie Amuzu, Nabali Mohammed Umar and Abubakar Frempong Manso, respectively for communities D, C, A & B, and Abubakar Alhassan, a unit committee member.

According to Chief Adams, zongo communities, just like others throughout the country, needed to be improved, particularly in the area of sanitation and education, and that it was the responsibility of assembly and unit committee members to spearhead the campaign in that respect.

“Zongo communities need to be improved and it is your responsibility to lobby for support from the assembly, non-governmental organisations and the well-to-do in society to provide some of the basic social amenities in our areas,” he stated.

Chief Adams reminded assembly and unit committee members of the sacrificial nature of their job and advised them not to consider any financial or material gains in the course of their duties.

He promised the assembly and unit committee members of his support to further improve the Koforidua Zongo community.

All the three assembly members also promised that they would work tirelessly to improve the living conditions of the people in their areas, while Mr Alhassan, who represented the unit committees, pledged the committees’ support to the assembly members in whatever they would do in the interest of the people.
