The acclaimed Ghanaian author and performance poet Nii Ayikwei Parkes has released a low-priced eBook, This is Not a Love Poem.

As well as performing his unique brand of poetry on major stages across the globe, Nii Ayikwei Parkes is an established author of poetry and fiction for both children and adults. His poem 'Tin Roof' was featured by the 'Poems on the Underground' initiative in June 2007, his poetry pamphlet, ballast: a remix was shortlisted for the 2009 Michael Marks Award and his debut novel Tail of the Blue Bird was shortlisted for the 2010 Commonwealth Prize. A socio-cultural commentator who has sat on broadcast panels with literary heavyweights such as Margaret Atwood and A.S. Byatt, he is also the co-founder and Senior Editor of flipped eye publishing and a roving ambassador for the Ghana Association of Writers. The eBook, This is Not a Love Poem, is available from payloadz.com for a stunningly low price of $0.50 and can be accessed via Nii's website at: http://thought.niiparkes.com/2010/12/free-e-book-this-is-not-love-poem.html

Nii made the decision to publish the eBook, This is Not a Love Poem, as a way of getting some of the writings he has shared in performance over the years out to his followers, but there is another more personal reason.

Nii Ayikwei Parkes states:
“One of the things that has always bothered me about having to start my writing career in the UK is the fact that very often my books and CDs are outside the reach of the average African pocket. Ideally, I would have liked to make This is Not a Love Poem completely free, but my website doesn't have the bandwidth to host it. At least at fifty cents, I know people can ask friends to get it and e-mail it to them without feeling like they are imposing. As a result, there are no security features on the eBook – it can be shared freely. If someone would like to host it, I would happily give my blessings if they asked.”
