Star of Suhum Schools celebrates 25th Anniversary

The District Director of Education of Suhum Kraboa Coaltar, Mrs. Gifty Asiedu-Okantah, has stressed that in order to produce quality future leaders, there was the need for teachers in the country to live lives worthy of emulation, and avail themselves for opportunities.

According to the GES boss, it was worrying to observe that teachers who should be role models to the children they claim to be impacting values, attitudes, beliefs and ideals into, have relegated their duties to the background, as a result of the excessive quest for wealth and other negative adventures.

Quoting from Ralph Wald Emerson's speech that 'the reward of a thing well done is to have done it,' Mrs. Asiedu-Okantah appealed to teachers and stakeholders in the educational sector to put their hands on deck, to ensure that quality education was delivered, since that was the only sure way to produce future leaders of integrity.

She made the observation at the 25th Anniversary celebration of the Star of Suhum Schools (SOS) here in Suhum over the weekend, which was under the theme, '25 Years of Quality Education in Rural Setting: SOS, the Pacesetters,' was colourfully attended.

Touching on the theme, Mrs. Asiedu-Okantah explained that quality basic education was critical to the existence of an informed citizenry, most especially, in the rural areas, where only a small percentage of the population has access to formal education, and where the population growth was more rapid than the expansion capacity of schools.

Mr. Andrew Yaw Adu, Proprietor of the school, on his part, mentioned that the theme for the occasion was chosen to rekindle the vision of raising future leaders for a better world, reflect on the achievement, short-comings, and challenges, and also redouble efforts in subsequent years.

He therefore, called on parents to develop interests in the education of their wards, through the prompt payment of fees and the provision of other educational materials.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Joy Ointment Company, Dr. Manfred Tetteh, and Dr. Harrison Tetteh, all old students of the school, took opportunity of the occasion to present some products of the company, and a cash of GH¢2,000 to the school.
