ABUJA, Sept 12, (THEWILL) - As Nigeria marks the National Creativity Day on September 14, 2010, the media has been enjoined to give verve and vitality to the commemoration of the Day by concentrating on the usage, promotion and critique of local contents of entertainment, informative, educational and allied creative works both in the Print and on the electronic media.
Director General of Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC), Dr. Adebambo Adewopo who disclosed this in Abuja weekend, indicated that the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Muhammed Bello Adoke, SAN, is scheduled to make an official statement on behalf of the Government of the Federation.
He pointed out that the Federal Government on January 23, 1995 at a workshop on broadcasting organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), declared September 14 as the National Day of Creativity.
The date, he added, was selected because it was the day Nigeria's membership of the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works came into force.
The Director General stated that as part of the commemoration of the Day, government subsequently instituted the National Creativity Day Award in 1999, adding that a panel of assessors has been set up to determine this year's Creativity Award Winner.
