Interview: Historian Offers Inside Look At the Rise and Fall of Hate Groups In America

While hate groups such as the Ku Klux Klan and Nazi's have seemed to fade into America's history, many still thrive today …and they're growing. The number of hate groups operating in the United States continued to rise in 2008 and has grown by 54 percent since 2000 — an increase fueled last year by immigration fears, a failing economy and the successful campaign of Barack Obama, according to the "Year in Hate" issue of the SPLC's Intelligence Report.

Historian and author Gerald Kubicki, sheds light on the history and motivation behind white supremacy groups in his new novel, A Dubious Mission. As reflected in his book, Kubicki reveals how white supremacy zealots, such as Hitler, took advantage of failing economies to gain power and how history does indeed have a way of repeating itself.
