Exodus 20(Aramaic Bible)
8. "Remember the ! SABBATH DAY ! for its HOLINESS !
9. "You will work six days and perform all that you do,
10. "And the SEVENTH Day is to be the SABBATH* for your Lord God; do not do any work in it, not you, your son, your daughter, your servants, your maidens, your animals and the settlers of your village,*
11. "Because the Lord created the heaven and the earth in six Days, the sea and all that is in it, and He rested on the
SEVENTH Day; that is why God blessed the SEVENTH Day and made it holy.
Exodus 20:8-12 (King James Version)
8 Remember the " SABBATH DAY ", to keep it holy.
9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
10 But the SEVENTH DAY is the SABBATH of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the SEVENTH day: wherefore the LORD blessed the ! SABBATH DAY !, and hallowed it.
12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
Isaiah 56 (King James Version)
Isaiah 56
1 Thus saith the LORD, Keep ye judgment, and do justice: for my salvation is near to come, and my righteousness to be revealed.
2 Blessed is the man that doeth this, and the son of man that layeth hold on it; that keepeth the "SABBATH" from polluting it, and keepeth his hand from doing any evil.
Isaiah 58 (King James Version)
13 If thou turn away thy foot from the ! SABBATH !, from doing thy pleasure on my HOLY DAY; and call the SABBATH a delight, the HOLY of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:
14Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
Isaiah 65 (King James Version)
17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.
18 But be ye glad and rejoice for ever in that which I create: for, behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy.
Isaiah 66 (King James Version)
22For as the new HEAVENS and the new EARTH, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain.
23 And it shall come to pass, that from one new MOON to another, and from one SABBATH to another, shall all flesh come to WORSHIP before me, saith the LORD.
Ezekiel 46 (King James Version)
1Thus saith the Lord GOD; The gate of the inner court that looketh toward the east shall be shut the SIX working days; but on the SABBATH it shall be opened, and in the day of the new MONTH it shall be opened.
3Likewise the people of the land shall worship at the door of this gate before the LORD in the SABBATHS and in the new MOONS(MONTH).
Mark 2 (King James Version)
23And it came to pass, that he went through the corn fields on the SABBATH DAY; and his disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of corn.
24 And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the SABBATH DAY that which is not lawful?
25 And he said unto them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungred, he, and they that were with him?
26How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the shewbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him?
27 And he said unto them, The SABBATH was MADE for MAN, and not MAN for the SABBATH:
28Therefore the SON of MAN is Lord also of the SABBATH.
*(The underlying assumption seems to be that of human need which takes precedence over religious ritual,This understanding fits well with v.27: "The sabbath was made for (dia + accusative) man, and not man for the sabbath." That is, this religious observance was intended for man's benefit, not his enslavement.*
Hebrews 4 (King James Version)
1Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his REST, any of you should seem to come short of it.
2For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
3For we which have believed do enter into REST, as he said, As I have sworn in my WRATH, if they shall enter into my REST: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
4 For he spake in a certain place of the ! SEVENTH DAY ! on this wise, And God did rest " THE SEVENTH DAY " from all his WORKS.
5And in this place again, If they shall enter into my REST.
6Seeing therefore it remaineth that SOME must enter therein, and THEY to whom it was first preached entered not in because of UNBELIEF:
7Again, he limiteth a CERTAIN DAY, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
8For if Jesus had given them REST, then would he not afterward have spoken of ANOTHER DAY !
9There remaineth therefore a REST to the people of God.
10For he that is entered into his REST, he also hath ceased from his own WORKS, as God did from HIS.
11Let us labour therefore to enter into that REST, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
12For the word of God is QUICK, and POWERFUL, and SHARPER than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
13Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
14Seeing then that we have a great HIGH PRIEST, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
15For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
16Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
Matthew 11 (King James Version)
27All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.
28Come unto me, all ye that LABOUR and are heavy laden, and I will give you REST.
29Take my yoke upon you, and learn of ME; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find REST unto your souls.
30For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Colossians 2 (King James Version)
8Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
9For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
10And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
11In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
12Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
16Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the SABBATH days:
17Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
