Denu, May 5, GNA - Mr Francis Bedzo, Denu Area Member of the Ketu-South District Assembly at the weekend presented the incomes and expenditure accounts of the area during his tenure from 1999 to date.

Mr Bedzo explained in detail to his constituents information contained in a collection of documents, receipts, vouchers and correspondences which focused on internally generated funds, including donations and funds received from the Assembly and advances and projects he had undertaken.

He told the well patronized meeting called at his instance that, the Central Unit Committee and the Community Implementation Committee on European Union projects have been deeply involved in determining the cost of projects and financial management.

Mr Bedzo put the total cost of projects during the period at 44,579.50 Ghana cedis, out of which the community mobilized 19,787.50 Ghana cedis, leaving a deficit balance of 20,792.00 Ghana cedis.

He said he personally advanced 20,297.00 Ghana cedis to offset the deficit.

Mr Bedzo said the community owes him 18,700.00 Ghana cedis.

He said the community and the District Assembly bore 11,200.00 Ghana Cedis out of 18,000 Ghana cedis being cost of workmanship on the construction of the 12-room one storey classroom block for the Denu RC Primary School, with donations from the Diamond Cement Limited in 2004.

He said he is yet to be given a refund of 327.00 Ghana cedis he spent in mobilizing a total of 5,000 books donated by various organisations to the District Library at Denu and the RC Primary School.

Other projects undertaken during his stewardship were a DANIDA supported market project at Denu, costing 1,220.00 Ghana cedis, renovation of the old RC Primary school block at 890.00 Ghana cedis and a total of 2,130.00 Ghana cedis on the EU sponsored Basic School project.

Mr Bedzo who enumerated other projects undertaken during his tenure said he had presented similar accounts between 2005 and 2007, except 2008.

He explained that his inability to render the 2008 account was due to lack of co-operation from the elders of the community hence his decision to go over the accounts from 1999 in order to set the records straight.

He welcomed the renewed support of chiefs and elders, and appealed for the early payment of amounts owed him, because the situation was affecting his transportation, fishing and other businesses, and was killing his interest in other community projects.

Many of those who attended the meeting called for support for Mr Bedzo to encourage him to do more for the community.

They demanded that others who were also given various assignments to perform on behalf of the community should also account for their stewardship.
