Management of TICO launches 10th anniversary celebration

Accra, April 29, GNA - The Management of Takoradi International Company (TICO), the first private power energy generating company in the country on Thursday launched its 10th anniversary celebration.

Mr Kirk Koffi, Deputy Chief Executive of Volta River Authority (VRA) in charge of Engineering and Operations, used the platform to appeal to government to create the enabling environment for more Independent Power Producers (IPP) to operate.

He said charging cost reflective tariffs would encourage more private companies to join the power production business for Ghana to attain power sufficiency.

TICO, a joint venture between Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA) with 90 per cent shares and VRA 10 per cent, started operation in Ghana to augment the country's electricity generation capacity.

The celebration is on the theme: "Delivering Quality Electricity Supply-Role of the Private Operator."

Mr Koffi commended management and staff of TICO for their commitment to boost power supply in Ghana for the past 10 years.

Nana Osafo Kantanka, Managing Director of TICO said the company would increase its power supply from 220 to 330 megawatts within the next two years.

He said currently, the company produce 13 per cent into the national electricity grid.

Nana Kantanka noted that the increase would come at less production cost to the company as the exhaust from the turbines of the 220 megawatts generated currently would be used to turn other turbines to generate added power.

He said management achieved 95 per cent availability to its clients.

Mr Carl Sheldon, President of TAQA who launched the anniversary said the company's expansion programme would be completed within two years.

Management of TICO signed the agreement with Ghana Government for the expansion by 110 mega watts to increase the thermal generating plant capacity to 330 mega watts.
