The alleged irresponsible and abominable act of a father has landed him in serious trouble.
Mallam Malik, a 47-year-old native of Burkina Faso, who has allegedly been having carnal knowledge of his 17-year-old daughter in the presence of his wife for the past one year is finally in the grips of the law.
Subsequently, Mallam has been remanded in prison custody at Sunyani to reappear before court on May 7, 2010.
The daughter (name withheld) is from a previous marriage. He has been charged with incest and threat of death.
Malik is now married to 37-year-old Zinabu Malik, also a Burkinabe, who suffered the unpleasant ordeal of watching her husband have sex with her daughter time and again.
Briefing the Berekum Circuit Court, presided over by Mr I.B. Akwantey, the Prosecutor, David Duncan, explained that Malik stays in a single room with his pregnant wife, together with five children including a set of twins at Kyeremaso in the Dormaa East District of the Brong Ahafo Region.
The wife sleeps with Malik on the bed while the children sleep on the floor.
Explaining further, the prosecutor said, for about a year now, Malik has been sleeping with his elder daughter in the presence of his wife and the other children.
According to Mr Duncan, anytime Malik felt like having sex, he would just jump on the daughter and satisfy his sexual needs.
The prosecutor said Malik threatened to kill his wife if she ever informed anyone of what was happening.
Unfortunately for Zinabu, she did not speak or understand any of the local dialects, so it therefore, became very difficult for her to tell anyone what was happening.
One day, Mr Duncan explained, Zinabu met one Mumuni Ali, a native of their country and she recounted the incident to him.
Mumuni who speaks Twi, a Ghanaian language then suggested that they inform the landlord of the matter and they did so.
The landlord then reported the case to the Dormaa Police and Malik was arrested.
The case was later reported to the Berekum branch of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service and Malik was arrested and sent to the Berekum DOVVSU office.
After interrogation, he was arraigned before court on April 19, 2010 and he pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Malik explained that he was innocent of the said charges and that Mumuni had connived with the wife to frame him up due to his refusal to give his daughter to him in marriage.
He was therefore remanded, to reappear before court on May 7, 2010.
The daughter has been given a hospital form to go for a medical check up and receive treatment if necessary. The police are awaiting the results.
