A ban on the use of motorbikes in the Upper East Regional Town of Bawku has been lifted, provoking mixed sentiments among the populace.
This was after persistent appeals by the Member of Parliament for Binduri Stephen Yakubu.
The ban was placed by the Upper East Regional Security Council after series of guerrilla killing in the violence-prone area where two ethnic groups, the Kusasis and Mamprusis have for years engaged in bloody chieftaincy clashes and which have sometimes assumed political undertones.
Speaking to Joy News some of the residents expressed sharply divided opinions on the lifting of the three week old ban.
Whilst some of them believe the ban has curtailed the killing spree in the area, others lament over decline in social and economic activities.
Meanwhile, the Interior Minister, Martin Hamidu has renewed the existing curfew in the area.
The curfew hours remains from 4:00 pm-6:am each day.
In a statement, the Interior Minister urged Chiefs, elders and opinion traditional leaders to unite and work towards peace.
