Leading ICT training institution, NIIT, is looking up to establishing a university in Ghana within the next decade.

Managing Director of NIIT Ghana, Kapil Gupta says the focus is to expand the provision of ICT education as a driving force to the national development agenda “to facilitate poverty reduction and enhance wealth creation”.

He spoke to Luv Fm at a ceremony to graduate 180 students of NIIT Kumasi. The 6th Graduation ceremony was on the theme: “10 years of Quality Education in Ghana”.

Mr. Gupta unveiled plans to extend the institution's state-of-the-art ICT training campus to the three northern regions by establishing a centre in Tamale.

He expressed NIIT's commitment to support Ghana's strategic national human resource development and capacity building plan through ICT training.

“We are looking up to perhaps opening more NIIT Centres all across Ghana; NIIT is already a household name but we're looking up to opening a university here in Ghana. Our main focus will still remain the ICT but we'll also handle other things like business administration, journalism, mass communication, and things like that, so that students will have the benefit of the quality education NIIT offers”, the NIIT MD noted.

Information Communication Technology has become an essential tool for the economic growth and advancement of many countries and NIIT Ghana has been at the forefront of ICT education.

Mr. Gupta is satisfied NIIT students occupy senior positions in ICT departments in both the public and private sectors.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Kofi Opoku-Manu in a speech read him entreated ICT training institutions to make programmes affordable for majority of the people to benefit.
