Kwesi Nyantakyi and the GFA deserves some credit

I have read in recent times some articles on how bad the GFA are and the fact that they have to be sacked. As I reflected on these points I tried to look for some positives with the current GFA administration and I realised that in spite of some of their shortcomings the current GFA board led by Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi deserves some credits.

First of all during his tenure, Ghana has been able to qualify for the World Cup on two occasions. This is a feat no administration has been able to achieve. All soccer loving fans will agree with me that the squads that qualified for Germany 2006 and the current squad which qualified for the South Africa 2010 World Cup are not the best squads Ghana has produced but I believe the management of the squads has been much better than before. Although I must mention that a number of factors, intuitions as well as government initiatives helped Ghana to achieve those feats, the current administration can be very proud of the achievements of the Senior National teams the black Stars.

Secondly, the U-20 team won its first World cup trophy under the current management which they have to take some credit for. In the just ended CAN 2010 in Angola, 8 of the players from the U-20 side helped Ghana to come second when no one expected us to.

Lastly, I think the appointments of coaches under the current administration have been much better. With the likes of Djokovic, LeRoy, Sellas Tetteh and our current Coach Rajevac no one will doubt the fact that the above mentioned coaches performed quiet well for Ghana.

I trust the GFA can do more to improve upon the achievements of the National teams by becoming a lot more of a 'corruption-free' institution and very transparent in their dealings. Also, the scouting of players as well as the development of the local players and league must be improved drastically. It seems the focus has been on the foreign game too much to the detriment of our local league. No wonder the MVP of last year's league season Joseph Ato Bissah was not even included in any of the national sides. Apart from that I will be happy to have the likes of Kwesi Nyantakyi continue with some of the great work they have done for Ghana football.
