Accra, Dec. 23, GNA - Kids from the University Primary & Junior High School, Legon, and the Virgo Preparatory School, Adabraka, who participate in the "Kids with Vission" weekly programme on Radio Universe Legon, today presented food items, detergents and used clothing worth five hundred Ghana Cedis to the Junior Girl's Correctional Centre belonging to the Department of Social Welfare in Osu.
Presenting the items, the Producer of "Kids with Vision" on Radio Universe, Miss Esther Doe, said the kids were moved by the plight of the children at the correction centre at Osu when they watched a TV3 programm requesting for assistance, and hence their presentation to assist the correction home at Christmas.
The food items included five boxes of used clothing, three gallons of vegetable oil, 2 boxes of fruit juice drinks, quantities of Biscuits and Milo, 4 mini bags of rice, a crate of milk, detergents, assorted soaps and toilet tissues.
Receiving the items, the Centre Manageress of the Osu Junior Girl's Correctional Centre, Madam Georgina Mensah, thanked the kids for their kindness and concern for the inmates of the centre, and appealed to the general public and corporate organizations to also come to their assistance.
Madam Mensah added that the Correctional Centre provided shelter for missing children, trafficked children and children who are sexually abused.
The Centre also assists with the reformation of juveniles, character and skill training, as well as taking care of boys who were on remand. Apart from these, there is a three-year vocational training institute attached to the Centre which offers training to boys and girls from within the locality.
