Girls Growth and Development (GIGDEV) a None Governmental Organization operating in the Northern Regions at Training deprived Girls in Dressmaking and Hairdressing has graduated 11 Trainees in Dressmaking.
The Participants each received Certificate of participation, a SINGER model sewing tailor machine and other equipments attaching the profession. The Ceremony scene in Savelugu called Dignitaries in the Like of the Regent of Savelugu, the Savelugu/Nanton District Chief Executive and GIGDEV partner organizations and people of the community. GIGDEV, which purpose is to provide training for underprivileged and marginalized young girls and women with employment skills, Life Skills, Business Management, Family Life Education, Literacy, Guidance and Counseling has four branches in the Tamale Metropolis, Tolon/Kumbungu and Savelugu/Nanton Districts. This is to alleviate Kayaye and streetism and other girl child and women handicap disadvantages.
In a welcome address by the Executive Director of GIGDEV Mr. Khalid Bashiru say that the forth graduation ceremony have Girls who have undergone two years intensive practical training in dressmaking and also those in hairdressing is but with other efforts and to contributing towards the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals as well as government vision 2015; fighting poverty, HIV/AIDS and educating the rural girls and children. He worried that GIGDEV undertakes this contributive skill employment efforts yet with no support from elsewhere aiding them in their works. The 11 Grandaunts each receive a settlement of package consisting of working equipments and machines, to enable them start working without tools problems. They are also equipped to open their own shops and engage apprentices from within their communities to come into the professions many more deprived girls from the support they receive from GIGDEV. Mr. Bashiru acclaim the Board of Directors, various Assemblies where they operate, NGOs, philanthropists and its hardworking stuff, that the progress of GIGDEV is from their efforts.
In the session, the Regent of Savelugu praised the efforts of the founder of GIGDEV Madam Stella Nitori and urged the grandaunts not to stay at home and not to leave behind the training and tools that GIGDEV give to them but establishes them selves in the profession.
The DCE of the area Prince Askia Mohammed Elaborated more on statistical results of poverty among the three Northern Regions, and urge individuals and corporate bodies who will pledge to come into support of the Savelugu/Nanton District is welcome and will be taken care of, for the development of the District. Hon. Askia advocates to the people in the areas of farming communities to take caution of bushfire to bring more yield of farms in the district.
