Kumasi, Dec 16, GNA - A 36-year old "akpeteshie" (local liquor) seller at Asante-Juaben, Yaw Mensah, has been remanded into prison custody by a circuit court in Kumasi for dealing dried leaves suspected to be cannabis.
Mensah, whose plea was not taken would re-appear at court on Wednesday, December 23.
Police Inspector Martin Asenso told the court presided over by Mr Justice Agyei Frimpong that following a tip off, the Police arrested the suspect on December 11 and a search in his room uncovered a quantity of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis.
He said Police also found a gallon full of "akpeteshie" mixed with dried leaves, popularly known as "laka."
Insp. Asenso said the suspect in his caution statement admitted dealing in narcotic drugs for survival since his deportation from the Netherlands
Prosecution said samples of the leaves had been sent for forensic laboratory test in Accra.
