Ghanaians urged not to politicize 2010 Population Census

Saltpond (C/R), Dec 7, GNA - The Assembly man for Nkubem Electoral area of Saltpond, Mr Francis Ejaaku Donkoh has called on Ghanaians not to politicize the National Population and Housing Census scheduled for 2010.

Mr Donkoh, who is aspiring for the position of the Central Regional Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic party (NPP) urged the leadership of all political parties to educate their members on the importance of the census to enable them to participate fully in it.

The aspiring NPP Youth Organizer was speaking with the Ghana New Agency at Saltpond.

He said the census must not be seen as an exercise to promote the agenda of the ruling government but as an exercise very crucial to our development planning, which every one must take seriously.

Mr Donkoh, who is also the Executive Director of the FED Kostle Group of Companies urged Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to initiate programmes to education the public on the census.

He urged members and supporters of the NPP to desist from actions and utterances which could divide the party's front and send wrong signals to the electorate.

"We need unity this time more than at any other time to champion our onslaught for the seat in 2012 general elections," he stressed.

The candidate assured the youth that he would not abandon them when elected but would fight hard to seek their welfare at all times.

He urged the delegates who would attend the regional congress to make wise decisions when casting their votes, saying "the success or failure of the party in 2012 general elections will depend on the decisions the delegates will take at the congress."
