KEY POLICY MAKERS JOIN CIVIL SOCIETY TO DISCUSS PRESSING TRADE ISSUES

By Lingxiao GAO

GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – High-level ministers, government officials, and other key players in the trade and sustainable development community will gather in Geneva for the Geneva Trade and Development Symposium (GTDS) on 30 November until 2 December. Boasting hundreds of registered participants, this critical meeting is set to occur in parallel to the Seventh Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization, where many of the major issues both on and off the WTO's Ministerial agenda will be discussed.

Organized by the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD), the GTDS is part of a series of symposiums regularly held during WTO Ministerial meetings, where key policy makers, international organizations, and civil society come together in a dialogue on substantive and impartial discussions in a non-negotiating context.

This year's event will focus on the three main challenges currently facing the multilateral trading system: institutional challenges, perspectives on the Doha Round, and new pressing issues and challenges, such as climate change.

The Geneva Trade and Development Symposium is open to the public and all are welcomed to attend. Registration in advance is obligatory. Please visit the event's website for more information: www.ictsdsymposium.org

Founded in 1996, the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD) is an independent non-profit and non-governmental organization based in Geneva. By empowering stakeholders in trade policy through information, networking, dialogue, well-targeted research and capacity building, the Centre aims to influence the international trade system such that it advances the goal of sustainable development.
