Catholic Choir Association celebrates 30th Anniversary

THE ASHANTI Catholic Choirs Association celebrated their 30th Anniversary with a call on choristers to use their gifts as singers, to preach the Gospel, in order to win more souls for Christ.

Msgr. James Baffour Addo, Parish Priest of the All Saints Catholic Church at Santase in Kumasi, who represented Archbishop of Kumasi, the Most Rev. Thomas Kwaku Mensah, said while addressing the anniversary thanksgiving mass at the Corpus Christi Parish in New- Tafo on the theme: “Let us rise up and build”.

The Rev. Father cautioned the choristers to see themselves as ambassadors of the gospel as they sing, and not to be dwarfed spiritually and theologically, and ensure that their lives are characterised by profound spirituality, especially in their marriage, homes, and workplaces, for the young ones to follow suit.

He further advised them to give due respect to their parish priests and one another, and bring peace to where there was no peace.

He cautioned them that Catholicism was not just believing in the doctrines, “it is also a matter of articulating in your daily lives what you believe in,” he pointed out, and urged them to bring the good news through song ministration.

The President of the Association, Mr. Owusu Afriyie, disclosed that the Association had established a music school, which had produced 200 music conductors in the Catholic Church over the last five years.

He indicated that the association could boast of many Rev. Fathers, Church Presidents, Choir Masters and Catechists, throughout the region and across the country.

Mr. Owusu Afriyie appealed to the Archbishop to come to the aid of the association financially, to enable it train more intellectuals for the upliftment of the church.
